The amazing story of Adolphus Tips
A lovely story of love, friendship, dedication and commitment. Set in the time of the Second World War Lily has to move from her coastal home because of the threat of invasion, unfortunately her cat doesn't want to move.
This is the story of the relationship Lily has with her precious cat, and the dedication she shows to ensure "Tips" safe return. It also tells the story of the relationships Lily finds along the way... with a wee twist at the end.

A Horse in the House byGail Ablow
Can you imagine having a HORSE IN THE HOUSE?! This is the title of a new book we have in the library... and it's a TRUE story; Strange, but true.
Other stories in the book are called 'Acting Like a Pig', 'Spy Kitties', 'The Donkey Wedding' and 'Elephant Dentures'.
I think that the pictures compliment the stories really well.
I wonder if any of our students have an animal or pet story to share on the blog?
(I'll tell you about my pet worm, Herman, one day... strange, but true~~~~~!!!)

A problem
We have a problem in the library but it's a good problem to have!
We have sooooo many readers in the Secret Book Club that the shelves are looking really empty! Never fear, we are buying lots of new books JUST FOR YOU!
There are some wonderful new titles nearly ready to go on the shelves.
If you are just becoming a fluent reader you'll love the series called "I AM READING". They are lovely stories with colourful illustrations and a built-in bookmark!
My favourite one is 'Mr Cool'... or maybe 'Mrs Hippo's Pizza Parlour'... or is it 'Ricky's Rat Gang'???? So many to chose from!

Today's Book Review from Mrs Karan
Thank you Mrs Karan for being such an enthusiastic member of our Book Club!
This review is about a story called What I Was by Meg Rosoff.
The setting is a school - St Oswalds and on the East Anglia coast in England.
Mrs Karan writes: This is a very intelligently written novel about a teenage boy in a boarding school and how he meets a boy called Finn; develops a lasting friendship with Finn. The langugage is very expressive and powerful and is no doubt very gripping until the end.
I would also say that there's an element of sadness and suspense. I found it very sensitive and touching too. I would recommend it quite strongly.
Thank you Mrs Karan. I have read this book too and really enjoyed it. In fact I couldn't put it down as I was wanting to find out what happened!
Keep reading everyone!! There are heaps more books waiting for you to read.

BOOK REVIEW & NEWS
Hi again. MRS SIOPE is our reviewer today. She has read a book that raises some really interesting issues.
The Jacket Written by Andrew Clements is a great Read Aloud book. It contains some really good issues about prejudices and racism. It has some great opportunities to discuss different families and how to deal with these differences.
Although the story is set in America I think our children will be able to easily identify with the characters in this book some how or another.
I would recommend this book to a year 5,6,7 or 8 class.

New Book Review
Mrs Charles is one of our Guest Reviewers.
She has read three books already! They are from a series 'Children of the the Red King' by Jenny Nimmo. There are two more books in the series and Mrs Charles says she can't wait to read those books as well (I will have to buy them for our library).
Her review: Good believable characters; exciting but simple plot and ideal fantasy story for children.
A very exciting read, couldn't put them down!

This is an interesting story of two very kind hearted girls, who looked after a stranger in the forest, in the best possible way. The stranger, in return, told them marvellous tales about a token he carried with him.
This novel carries some very important messages and is fun to read.

HOT CHOCOLATE BOOK CLUB
The book we are reading is "The Lion, the WItch and the Wardrobe" by C.S Lewis. The Hot Chocs are from Room 7 and we meet in the library once a week, drink hot chocolate (YUM!) and talk about what we have read. Miss Woodward and Miss Freeman come along as well. (we all love reading and chocolate!!).
A reading strategy we used last week was to use post-it notes to help us clarify unknown words and parts of the story we didn't quite understand. This worked well and we all learnt some new words.

Term One Orientation
First post from Mrs Mes:
It's been great to have had so many classes through the library in the first two days. We've also had lots of you asking about the (Secret) Book Club but we'll have to wait a couple of weeks before we get that started again. In the meantime you can issue books to read in class. Miss Woodward is in the process of sorting out your library card into the class you're in this year. Duffy Books are here as well so when you come into the library you'll get to see these books which will help you make your choices.
